Ha! My dog is a 2 ½ year old Golden Retriever named Demi.

You may have seen her- the next time you see the Brett Favre commercial for Wranglers Jeans look for the Golden in the back of the truck – that is Demi.

I named her Demi after Demi Moore since she was such a cute small pup. Since then I have thought ‘demolition Derby’, ‘Durn it Demi’, ‘Demi, Demi demon D’….not exactly the perfect dog. I think that God brought Demi in to my life to remind me that it is NOT always the human’s fault! That said she is a great dog and is going to try for her therapy dog title this Spring.

Its kind of funny but for some reason it is easier for me to train your dog then for me to train my own dog. Why? She lives with me! She knows her wiggle room and knows how to make me laugh. However she does come when I call her, stays where I put her, walks politely on a leash, goes to the bathroom outside, does not bite or jump on people, or eat the house, goes to her bed when I ask her to and is great my grandchildren.

It took me time to achieve this and you can do the same with your dog. We are here to help you!

Encouraging to hear how you and your dog live together. I remember her from training classes and she was adorable.

Oh my gosh! Every time I see that commercial, I think, what a gorgeous dog...I hope Rex learns to be calm and sit in the back of our truck someday. Demi's a celebrity! AND she got petted by Brett Favre...wow. ;)

My pup's name is Rex and he's 14 weeks old now, and is a full blooded yellow lab from Oakdale Labs. He learned Sit right off the bat, but still doesn't get Stay. He does Fetch pretty well, and Come, and does a wonderful Shake! We're starting Puppy Kindergarten tonight, and I am so excited because I know how important socialization is, and how important early training is. My fiance and I differ on some training techniques, so we'll both learn a lot, I'm sure. ;)

I have volunteered at Hand in Paw for about 5 years now, and hope that Rex will someday be a therapy dog. With each passing day, I think that wish can come true because he is such a good and smart dog. Of course, he'll have to learn not to jump before then!

We look forward to meeting new friends tonight at "school"!

Thank you for your comment. I love Joyce's labs. I am sure that coming from Oakdale Rex will make a wonderful therapy dog. There is a good reason that dogs are not allowed to be therapy dogs until a year of age! Demi would not have been able to pass even at a year. She will be 3 in June. We started the Hand in paw spring training program last week. Food luck in class and keep us posted online of your progress! Margaret
